Limited research has investigated the affect that a lottery system has on survey respondents and performance management. This study was conducted to explore the influences of exposure to recycled art combined with a lottery system on the returning customer rate at a recycling center. Participants were visitors of the Chatham County Recycling Center at the time of the study. The three conditions were a gallery plus ticket, ticket only, and no gallery or ticket (i.e. control). Customers in the gallery plus ticket and the ticket only condition had an opportunity to win recycled art upon returning to the center within two weeks. It was found that visitors who were exposed to recycled art plus the lottery or the lottery alone had a higher return rate than customers in the control condition. Implications of the results and future research directions are also presented.
