Undergraduate #368
Discipline: Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences
Subcategory: Social Sciences/Psychology/Economics

Kendall Lane - Hampton University

Music streaming has changed the way music is distributed to the consumers. Consumers are able to access music in an easier way through music streaming applications. The music streaming companies have millions of songs in there catalogs that consumers have the access to listen to their favorite artists or to be discovered to someone new. The controversy in music streaming is from having it to become a profitable business and steering away from just a piracy service. Also it strikes concerns for artists who are not receiving the sufficient royalties that are deserved. These are all issues that are addressed with the top rising music streaming companies like Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music and Tidal. The music industry economy has been impacted by computer technology. Through computer technology, music streaming has become an efficient and quick way for artists to develop a bigger following and for consumers to have direct access to music and videos in seconds. The objective is to compare these music streaming companies to view their strategies in technology and business to increase subscribers and artists support. An interview with a business professional will address the music industry today and how it has grown economically. But also on how computer technology has molded how the music industry is run in the 21st century. A survey will also be conducted for consumers to give feedback on what music streaming company they prefer and the reasons to support their opinion. Also a view on how they see music streaming in the future. The goal is to convey that music streaming companies use computer technology to attract consumers to subscribe to their service through applications or online services. The computer technology used on this music streaming application also has to gain the support of shareholder, labels, investors, artists, and partners in order for the business side of music streaming to flourish. The music industry economy has grown with music streaming that has been developed from computer technology.
