ProtoDUNE single phase is a prototype of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE).The DUNE is an experiment to detect the responses of charged particles, such as neutrinos and antineutrinos. The ProtoDUNE validates and helps design the technologies to be applied to the DUNE [1] [2]. We report on silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) for photon detection system for the DUNE detector. Without this system, we would have a much larger uncertainty in the energy reconstruction and the particle identification. Essential to the required performance of the photon detection system, are the light detectors that will collect and measure the amount of argon scintillation light emitted in interactions. We plan to use SiPMs in our detector, since they have good performance at low temperature and affordable price. We have designed the test set up for testing SiPMs in liquid nitrogen. We have been characterizing SiPMs from various vendors in the cryogenic conditions with this set-up. It is essential to identify more than one suitable supplier and with fast pace of the SiPM. We will present results of characteristics of three most promising SiPMs at temperature of 77 K. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Radovan Milincic, milincic@hawaii.edu Reference: 1. Role: I searched different SiPMs from 5 companies and placed the orders. Together, we tested the SiPM from each company to see which SiPM will collect data with the most accuracy. After finding the best SiPM from our experiment, we will send the data to DUNE.I also ran the experiment using the SiPM to see if the calculations are correct or if there are any errors in the code of the collected data.
