Enhancing Quantitative/Computational (QC) Confidence/Competence in Life Sciences

Faculty #3
Discipline: Biological Sciences
Subcategory: STEM Research

Lee Limbird - Fisk University
Co-Author(s): ClarLynda Williams-Devane PhD1., Sajid Hussain PhD1., Brian Nelms, PhD1., Willysha Jenkins1, MS, Patricia Campbell, PhD. 3 , Ayesha Boyce, PhD2, P McCarroll, MS1, and Lee E Limbird, PhD1 Fisk University1, UNC-Greensboro2, and Campbell-Kibler Inc.3

Reciprocal faculty transdisciplinary learning has transformed the undergraduate student QC experience at Fisk due to both 1) design, faculty preview, and initial implementation of a Technology Literacy course, ultimately required for all students in their first year, and 2) aligned interdisciplinary faculty mentored undergraduate research opportunities. Emerging faculty collaborations are resulting in extension of computational problem solving from the natural to the social and behavioral sciences, addressing societal challenges of immediate relevance to students.
